Indescribable

It's been a while since the last post. Life just seems to be so hectic at the moment that it is just difficult to keep up. In these busy times it becomes easy to get distracted and focus on things that I guess really are not all that important.

Fortunately I was privileged to view an amazing "sermon" by Louis Giglio last night. Just painted a picture again of how awesome God is!! It reminds me that it is impossible to truly worship God without a sense of wonder. When we begin to see the greatness of God, then nothing seems impossible and we can't help but respond. I really pray that I personally can remain in that place of awe and wonder.

Beautiful News

Well - I am unashamedly a huge fan of Matt Redman's songs. Just because, in my opinion, nobody writes congregational songs with depth and truth as well as he does. He also sings with genuine passion - it never sounds like a performance.

If you are thinking of buying a CD - go to the shop and give this one a listen, and while you are listening, take out the cd cover and read the words. His stuff is never quite as catchy as the likes of United Live or Hillsong - but it has timeless truths and gems all over the place.

Thank you Matt for hearing from God and blessing us with these songs.

What Do I Worship (Part 3)

Let’s read the way the psalm-writer in Psalm 115 explains it:

“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name be the glory, because of Your love and faithfulness. Our God is in Heaven, He does whatever pleases Him. But their idols are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but they cannot smell; they have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but they cannot walk; nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.”

Simply put, we become what we worship.

If you don’t like who you’re becoming, take a good hard look at the things that you value most.

Take a few minutes to answer those questions on your own and to talk to God about what you may discover.

What do I worship?

1) Where am I spending most of my time?

2) Where am I spending most of my energy?

3) Where am I spending most of my money?

Set List for Sunday 11th feb 2007

Ok, ok – so I know I’m only publishing the set-list the day after. This is mainly because I only finalised the list early Sunday morning!

We had a good time didn’t we? I’m really pleased that the new songs seem to be “working well” so to speak. For those of you who are not aware; the 2 new songs we have done “Rising” and “Greater Song” are off Paul Baloche’s latest CD. I have written a review in a previous post.

The last 2 weeks we have also done a version of “Amazing Grace” with an additional chorus “My Chains are Gone”. You can hear this version on Chris Tomlin’s latest CD titled “See the Morning”. I’ll write a review on this CD sometime.

I’m really impressed with how well the team is “gelling” and improving the whole time. So I encourage everyone to keep on encouraging them. They put in a lot of hours so that they can serve the family.

Set-list:

Found Love (United Live)
Rising (Paul Baloche & Matt Redman)
Hosanna (Paul Baloche & Brenton Brown)
Greater Song (Paul Baloche & Matt Redman)
Blessed Be Your Name (Mat Redman)
Here I am to Worship (Tim Hughes)
Amazing Grace (Additional Chorus by Chris Tomlin)

What Do I Worship (Part 2)

Do you realize that some of the most incredible forms of worship are found outside the walls of the church and have no reference to the God of all creation?

For example, have you ever watched on TV, or, better yet, attended a concert and sporting event? These events are filled with the same forms of worship mentioned in the pages of God’s Word – the same expressions of worship that God desires. Adoration. Applause. Awe. Dancing. Devotion. Excitement. Honor. Music. Shouting. Singing.

And here’s the thing about worship; you’re free to worship whatever or whomever you want, but there’ll always be a last twist to the story: whatever you worship, you imitate; whatever you imitate, you become. In other words, whatever you value most will ultimately determine who you are. If you worship money, you’ll become greedy at the core of your heart. If you worship some sinful habit, that same sin will grip your soul and poison your character to death. If you worship stuff, your life will become material, void of eternal significance. If you give all your praise to the god of you, you’ll become a disappointing little god both to yourself and to all those who trust in you.

To be continued...

What Do I Worship (Part 1)

This is the next article to be posted around the topic of worship in an endeavour to hopefully bring some thought and understanding about an important part of our lives that is often misunderstood. It's important to remember that Theology and Passion need to co-exist.

Thanks to Nathan Lawrenson for the material. Hope you enjoy. Feel free to comment or ask questions.

You can tell what a person worships by the way he lives his life.

So, how do you know what you worship? It’s easy. You simply follow the trail of your time, your affection, your energy, your money, and your allegiance. At the end of that trail you’ll find a throne; and whatever, or whomever, is on that throne is what’s of highest value to you. On that throne is what you worship.

Matthew 6:21 says, “Where you’re treasure is, there your heart will also be.”

And the trail never lies. We may say we value this thing or that thing more than any other, but the volume of our actions speaks louder than our words. In the end, our worship is more about what we do than what we say.
